Meanwhile Shreefpunk toured through 15 countries of Europe, Australia and seven countries in West-Africa, presented in numerous big concert halls and philharmonics. As Shreefpunk + Big Band with two drummers a total of 20 musicians appeared among others in Cologne’s Philharmonic, at the Moers Festival and in the Bimhuis in Amsterdam.
Shreefpunk is a band from Cologne, which was founded 2003 by Matthias Schriefl and combines Jazz, Punk and classical elements of music. Sometimes the four musicians perform together with classical strings. On their last CD they play together with Django Bates, and now they called a whole bigband to join them for their latest CD Europa. Shreefpunk functioned as rhythm group while the Big Band included excellent soloists of the Cologne Jazz scene. Two drummers at the same time – this remarkable line-up is setting the focus to the polyrhythmic charme and the pulsing grooves of the compositions.
Today Shreefpunk is one of the most inventive ensembles in the European Jazz scene. It presents a complete new repertoire, that gives space to the creative soloists of the bigband, to enrich the style of Shreefpunk with own ideas and impulses.
